When we help clients to set up their websites we are often asked how many pages it’s best to have, whether they should keep things minimal with a handful of pages, or add lots more information with ten or more!

There’s really no sure-fire answer to how many pages your website will need, but there are a few different points to consider that will help people to navigate your website with ease and also help to increase your SEO ranking.

Consider your menu bar

The number of pages you have isn’t as important as how you organise them. Have your website navigation menu bar well organised and make it easy for people to find the information they’re looking for quickly, allowing them navigate back and forth without getting lost. We can help you to figure out which pages are the most important and which order they should come in across the menu bar.

A page for each product or service

If you offer multiple products / services, then make each one a separate page. Not only will this make google recognise each one separately increasing the change you will rank highly for that term with your SEO efforts, it will also be easier for customers and potential customers to find the information that they need without having to scroll a long page to find the section they are interested in.

A page for each location

If you work in different areas of the country, add dedicated pages for each area, which is also another handy SEO trick and means people visiting your site get location specific content.

A blog

Adding a blog to your site will add many more pages to your site, as every time you make a post it will become part of your website structure. It also provides a space that has constantly refreshed content, which again, will help with SEO as Google doesn’t like old websites that haven’t been changed since the day it was created.

Constantly updating content

In fact considering how your social media presence is integrated with your website generally is another important consideration. Adding links to your online profiles and RSS feeds of your activity (often refered to as “widgets”) on your main website are great ways of showing Google that your website features a lot of new, constantly updated content.

This also works with pages other than the home page, don’t just keep your website the same as it was when it was first built. Instead, add more services, pages and social features to increase your Google rankings.
